Our Charity Outreach Work

The people at St Andrew's have made it their mission to reach out to others and this has particularly been evident in the monthly coffee mornings when any money raised is for one of three charities we focus on. These are: our projects in the Kenyan village of Wiyumiririe; ToiletTwinning which is important to us as we were fortunate to build a toilet here; and Volunteers for Mental Heath, a small charity that works with patients in a large psychiatric hospital in Romania.

As the year draws on we can look back and acknowledge the fact that our "wall of twinned toilets" is expanding with more being added during 2017. At a cost of £60 we are usually able to have one, two or occasionally three more additions after a Toilet Twinning Coffee morning.

The projects in Wiyumiririe over the last 12 months are pleasing. The retro viral drugs for Aids victims are delivered to the village surgery twice a week. This saves an expensive bus ride to collect them. The goat unit was finished in the spring and fundraising for a classroom for children with learning disabilities is well on track with more than £3000 raised so far this year. Much of that money came from the pilgrimage on the camino in Spain.

The third charity, Volunteers for Mental Health, has just sent their Impact Report which includes how our help from Coffee mornings has assisted in the drive to improve people's experiences of accessing mental health services.

It is in giving that we receive.
